For labour & delivery
- your birth plan and hospital notes
- loose and comfortable clothes to wear during labour
- a fan, water spray or flannel to cool you down
- massage oil / lotion
- aromatherapy oils, especially if you have used them during pregnancy for hypnobirthing
- a TENS machine if you intend to use one
- snacks and drink
For after birth
- comfortable clothes to wear during your stay in hospital, maternity-sized outfit to wear home
- front-opening or loose-fitting tops if you’re going to breastfeed
- 2 or 3 comfortable bras, including nursing bras if you’re planning to breastfeed
- breast pads
- super-absorbent maternity pads
- 5 or 6 pairs of cotton knickers
- socks
- flip flops / slippers
- washbag – toothbrush, hairbrush, flannel, soap, lip balm, deodorant, hair ties, skin care
- towel
- laundry bag
- nipple balm
- entertainment – books, magazines, music / podcasts
- phone and charger.
- any medicines you’re taking
For the baby
- 5 vests
- 5 sleepsuits with feet
- a going home outfit
- a hat, scratch mittens and socks
- 10-20 nappies
- cotton wool or water wipes
- a blanket
- 2 muslin squares
- outerwear – weather dependent – cardigan, jacket, snowsuit
- a car seat
For your partner
- change of clothes
- wash bag – toothbrush, tooth paste
- phone and charger
- snacks and drinks
Also nice to have
- playlist and speakers / headphones
- make up
- ear plugs & eye mask
- pillow
